The Code Charity Mission
Code Charity aims to connect volunteer developers with people needing technical assistance. Combining donated time and expertise with below market rate pricing, Code Charity is able to provide a service to both end-clients and charities.
We do not take in money directly.
Most good developers code for fun in addition to coding for work. While developing a website or configuring a server seem easy, that is because developers live and breathe these tasks. For most people, these tasks are complex and intimidating, requiring skills. Rare skills. Valuable skills.
Many small businesses can't afford to hire a developer. Taking time to find one for an individual task is a long process with an expensive bill at the end. Code Charity pairs volunteer developers with individuals or businesses needing development work. Since the work is volunteer based, project costs can be substantially lower. All we ask is that you donate what you feel is appropriate for the project. You will be donating directly to a charity. Code Charity does not take money directly.
Our Vision
There are a few different charity organizations which organize coding events for the purpose of contributing development time to nonprofit organizations and other charities. These are amazing initiatives, but managing schedules and getting a bunch of local developers together for a single weekend can be difficult.
Code Charity follows a different model. The process is more conventional from the eyes of a developer – remote work, paired programming, individual programming – and the clients are small businesses which do not need to be nonprofits or charities themselves.

What do these magical gnomes of creation get out of this?
Volunteering is difficult. It's hard to manage and schedule the time commitments and it's difficult to find projects to volunteer for that match your skills and hobbies.
If you're lucky, you get paid to do what you love professionally. If you love what you do professionally, you're probably doing it here and there in your free time. Spending just a few hours here and there to make money for a charity and benefit a small business is a karma train, destination awesome. You're already awesome, so maybe you don't want to visit, but you know who wants to know you went there? Hiring managers.
You'll be fluffing up your portfolio with interesting projects you decide to work on. You'll be learning new technologies and methods by having the option to team up with other volunteers. You'll be BUILDING things, launching products, developing personal and professional connections, all the while both giving to individuals as well as charities.
